Sultana Jasmine, a union land office employee of Naogaon passed away in a hospital after she fell seriously sick while in the custody of RAB-5. RAB was acting on the direction of Enamul Haque, the local government director of the Rajshahi divisional commissioner’s office. Her autopsy report states that she suffered an injury to her head and hemorrhages in her brain.
More questions arose later when it is found that Enamul Haque had not filed any case despite the police advice after his Facebook account was hacked. Jasmine’s landlord claimed that her house was under constant surveillance by men claiming to be from the law-enforcing agency. Her only son Shahed Hossain Saikat, a final year student at Chittagong University, was picked up by RAB after he said, “She died due to torture in RAB custody. She has a mark of injury on her head” (The Daily Star, March 27, 2023).
